Ashwagandha- Withania somnifera
Ashwagandha has risen to be one of the superstars of the herb kingdom, and with good reason. Tonic and sedative all in one, this wonder herb has the ability to nourish a strung out nervous system while simultaneously supporting energy levels. The name literally means “smell of the horse”! It is also renowned for imparting sexual stamina, and is a wonderful adaptogen, reproductive tonic, and aphrodisiac. It is also fantastic in insomnia and a weakened immune system. Ashwagandha, we love you!!!
Anantamula/Sariva- Hemidesmus indicus
As an herbalist and woman, Anantamula is absolutely my FAVORITE HERB for nourishing women. Women are often depleted on many levels, and this gem helps give us the support we so desperately need and deserve! Anantamula nourishes the plasma, blood, and reproductive tissues. It has an affinity to the uterus and has long been used in India to enhance quality and quantity of breast milk. It is also fantastic for clearing inflammation from the skin, and additionally nourishes and cleanses the lymph. Anantamul rules!
Śatāvarī- Asparagus racemosus
This herb is known as ‘the woman who has a hundred husbands’, and as the name suggests, is a superb tonic for the reproductive system. Aphrodisiac, adaptogenic, and an immunomodulatory, shatavari is known for nourishing the uterus and female fertility. Its unctuous properties increase reproductive fluids, enhance uterine strength, and can also be used in menopausal symptoms with heat. Like anantamula, śatāvarī also nourishes the plasma fluid.
Āmalaki- Emblica officinalis
Most known for its nourishing properties and as the foremost ingredient in Chyavanaprash, āmalaki is also indicated in cases of anemia, low energy, and general debility and weakness. It is a common plant in India and is produced from the fruit of the Malacca tree. It is said to increase reproductive fluids and sexual potency and is also a hair tonic. It is also an effective liver cleanser, and has antioxidant properties
Yashtimadhu- Glycyrrhiza glaba
Licorice is known for its nourishing, soothing, and strengthening properties, and is indicated in cases of adrenal fatigue. Its name literally means ‘sweet stick’ and it is 50 times sweeter than sucrose! Vitalizing, rejuvenative, and ulcerative, this delicious root does so much! It nourishes the whole reproductive system and has a cortisol-like action. It is also fantastic in conditions of chronic fatigue and additionally is sattvic in nature. Licorice for life!
This herb has an affinity to the nervous system, and is fantastic for treating a variety of disorders, such as insomnia and other more serious conditions. It is great for alleviating stress and is well known for its ability to promote intellectual capacity- who doesn’t want some of that! It is also known for promoting emotional stability- no more crying at commercials (no promises though)! It also nourishes the deeper reproductive tissues and is used to promote fertility in men and women.
IMPORTANCE OF IRON
Healthy blood for a healthy you!
Iron is an essential component for blood production and allows red blood cells to transport oxygen throughout the body. If you don’t have enough iron, your body is unable to produce sufficient red blood cells, leading to feelings of fatigue, decreased immunity, and increased chances of premature birth in pregnant women. It also plays a role in maintaining healthy cells, skin, hair, and nails(1).
How common is iron deficiency?
Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the world and affects over 25% of the world’s population. It is the most common nutritional deficiency in the United States.
WHO recommendations. “Daily iron supplementation is recommended as a public health intervention.. for the prevention of anemia and iron deficiency (2).”
How our iron is different
Āyurveda has been using iron to treat anemia and other health conditions for over 5,000 years! The iron from Loha Bhasma is processed 100x to yield a nanoparticle form that is easier to digest and assimilate than other iron products on the market, and supports blood oxygenation so that you can vital and energized. Studies have shown vegetarians are far more likely to be iron deficient, so be sure you are getting the iron you need for the health you deserve. Try Vital Vegetarian, and feel the difference!
WHY B-COMPLEX VITAMINS?
B vitamins play critical roles in many key metabolic processes in the body. As a group, their collective effects are important to many aspects of brain function, from energy production to DNA/RNA synthesis, as well as that of numerous neurochemicals and signaling molecules. They must be obtained from food or supplements, and while most supplementation focuses on b-12, research describes that optimal levels of all eight B-vitamins are critical for optimal physiological and neurological functioning. This same review shows a significant proportion of populations in developed countries suffer from deficiencies of one or more of this group of vitamins and concludes supplementing the entire B-vitamin group “would be a rational approach for preserving brain health
