What to Pack for a Yoga Teacher Training

A practical + soulful guide for arriving prepared, grounded, and at ease

Preparing for a yoga teacher training is about far more than fitting things into a suitcase. It’s about creating the conditions for deep learning, self-study, rest, and presence. When you arrive prepared, you can relax into the experience instead of worrying about what you forgot.

Below you’ll find a complete packing guide for your 200-hour or 300-hour yoga teacher training in either Portugal or Italy—what’s essential, what’s highly recommended, and what to leave at home—along with practical tips to help your journey unfold smoothly.

The Essentials: What You Must Bring

These items are required for participation in the training. We may not have extras available, so please plan accordingly.

For Your Yoga Teacher Training

  • 2 notebooks, 1 personal journal, several pens (different colors encouraged), and self-adhesive sticky notes or adhesive page tabs. This will help you organize class notes using one notebook for asana related information and the other for philosophy. Your journal will be a place for you to document your inner experience. Different colored pens will help emphasize and differentiate important concepts. Sticky notes will help you organize your notebooks and training manual.

  • Yoga mat

  • Required textbook (based on your program):

These core texts are used during asana lab and as reference material for other assignments. While additional books are recommended (see below), you cannot complete the coursework without the required anatomy text.

For the Overall Experience

  • House slippers (shoes are not worn indoors)

  • Personal care & feminine hygiene products

  • Basic first-aid items: personal medications, arnica, sore-muscle balm, ibuprofen, allergy or motion-sickness medication, bandages

  • Cash (Euro) for excursions and local transportation

Verona Summer Tips

  • Avoid synthetic fabrics—they trap heat

  • Expect sweat—plan for frequent outfit rotation

  • Laundry access is essential—pack lighter, not more

Footwear (All Locations)

  • Yoga sandals or slip-ons

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Hiking or trail shoes (if you enjoy nature walks)

  • Optional: casual dress sandal or boot (season-dependent)

Fabric & Style Tips (Very Lakshmi Rising)

  • Clothes that layer well > bulky pieces

  • Think: “yoga all day → dinner → sunset walk”

Minimalist Packing Reality Check

If you’re unsure, aim for:

  • 7 bottoms

  • 12 tops

  • 5 layers

  • 2–3 lounge sets

With weekly laundry, this is more than enough—and keeps your suitcase sane.
