We believe that the energy and intention of a place has a strong effect on one's experience, for better or for worse. For this reason, we have chosen two sacred and magical locations to host our offerings. Each of these sanctuaries will become a character in the story of your journey, choose your own adventure wisely.

The Sanctuary at Two Rivers in Costa Rica and La Selva di Giardino in Tuscany, Italy are extremely different in many ways, yet both have been established on principles of environmental stewardship and sustainability, beautiful and functional design in alignment with the surrounding Nature, both are places to draw on for creative inspiration, and also to find Spiritual connection and peace.

Within the full spectrum of wonderful and unique aspects that each of these properties avails, we truly offer something for everyone. Read on for full details.

Plan for your experience:

Fly on Sansa (not Nature Air) from San Jose into Tambor. It is a beautiful 20 minute flight followed by a 40 minute taxi ride. There is a $2.25 airport tax to be paid upon disembarking the small plane. Be ready with exact change for that. It works best to plan your travel for the day before the training begins and to spend Saturday night in Montezuma. This will give you a chance to settle in at The Sanctuary on Sunday. We serve a delicious lunch at 2:00pm and our first training session starts at 4:00. This session is a required part of the training so please don’t be late! Plan your departure for late morning on May 26. Our program ends after breakfast and check out time at The Sanctuary is 10am.

We have two group excursions that are included in your tuition. The first Saturday of our training, we adventure together to beautiful Santa Teresa where you will have the option to take a surf lesson, check out some super bohemian boutiques for bikinis, unique jewelry and sundresses, enjoy a tropical superfood smoothie and chill on the expansive beach. The following week, we will visit Montezuma. Here, you can explore the famous Montezuma Waterfall, shop, have lunch like a local and enjoy the beautiful beach.

Another unique aspect to our training at The Sanctuary are the powerful Nature rituals that are scheduled on both Sundays of the program. We hike in the rivers to secluded waterfalls with intention, connection and purpose.

The YTT schedule is very full and does not leave much unstructured time to explore on your own. Please come a few days early or plan a few days after the program to do that.

What to bring:

You will also need at least 2 notebooks, several pens in different colors, flashlight with batteries, sturdy river walking shoes (have these on your feet upon arrival), insect repellant, eco-friendly personal care products (lavender, peppermint & tea tree essential oils come in handy, so does baby powder), first aide necessities (insect bite soother & arnica are essentials), easy to store snacks like dried fruits, nuts and nut butters, and cash for taxis ($50 each way from Tambor airstrip to The Sanctuary) & staff gratuity (suggested amount is $200 for 21 days for dining service, daily house keeping, weekly laundry service, luggage transport, concierge services and more). Our housekeeping staff will do laundry for you at the end of weeks 1 & 2. Bring eco-friendly laundry soap (like Dr. Bronner's) to supplement with hand washing. We have yoga mats and props here, but I also recommend bringing a yogi toes towel because it will get sweaty ;).

They have just finished 3 weeks of eating every recipe in our cookbook while on their Lakshmi Rising 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification Program with Dr. Liz Lindh at The sanctuary at Two Rivers in Costa Rica! Listen to what they have to say about their Gaia Gourmet Cuisine Experience!

La Selva di Giardino:
Tuscany, Italy

Program Dates:
2018

SEPT 9 - OCT 1

We searched far and wide, set our focus upon the exquisiteness that is Italy, and explored the country to find the most suitable place for our offerings, a Sanctuary to hold us as we delve deep into the arts and sciences of Yoga while enjoying an all inclusive, luxurious and culturally enriching journey.  We found this Sanctuary in the Chianti region of Tuscany, the heart of the “Golden Triangle” between Senna, Arezzo and Florence; La Selva di Giardino. This magical place, overlooking the gentle slopes of the Arno valley, is a vast 32 acre natural garden of ancient oaks, olive groves, grape vines and overflowing meadows with indigenous wild flora and fauna. Similar to our beloved Sanctuary in Costa Rica, two flowing streams of water enhance the potent high vibration of the land. The totally restored 17th century farmhouse, two additional smaller villas, a spacious studio specifically for Yoga, four salt water swimming pools and an outdoor amphitheater are peacefully nestled into this healing environment, intertwined as if in symbiosis. Although the main villa was built more than 300 years ago; the recent restoration has maintained the spirit of the house with respect to the original architecture and use of hand-made and natural materials following bio-architecture parameters. The design and decor are simple and comfortable, with inspiring use of light, art and antiques. The owner is an artist, visionary, florist and arborist who stumbled upon this run-down property while hiking and has passionately and wholeheartedly enlivened it beyond its original beauty.

Plan for your experience:

This intensive immersion Yoga Teacher Training features healthy, organic, farm to table, vegetarian Italian dishes, options for curated excursions to cultural sites, thermal hot springs, shopping & more, food & wine adventures, in-house massage therapy & healing body work, and exclusive use of the 32 acre private botanical garden property.

Our delicious farm-to-table Tuscan menu during the training is lacto-ovo vegetarian. The talented Chef Maria at La Selva cannot accommodate vegan, gluten-free or any extreme dietary restrictions such as a raw food diet.

Meet us in Florence at Osteria Cipolla Rossa (Via dei Conti, 53/r, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy) at 7pm on Sunday September 9 for an opening celebration welcome dinner. We have designed a delicious four-course, slow-food endorsed vegetarian tasting menu paired with wine…our treat! Our meal begins with bruschetta, fresh tomatoes, basil and tuscan olive oil, Florentine white beans and sage, and spicy sautéed greens. Our next course will be Ribollita, a typical tuscan bread soup with vegetables. This will be followed by small plates of homemade Saracino tagliatella with fresh aromatic herb pesto, cherry tomatoes and ground toasted almonds, and also handmade gnocchi with a decadent truffle cream sauce. We finish with dessert; pumpkin pie with sweet gorgonzola cheese sauce and chocolate cake.

It is your responsibility to find lodging in Florence on Sunday night. There are many hotels, hostels and Air BnB’s but plan ahead, September is a very busy time there.

We will have the day to explore beautiful Florence on Monday. Check out Il Duomo, the Uffizi Gallery or just wander around and soak up the sights and culture. Again, it is a good idea to reserve tickets ahead of time so you do not have to wait in the long lines. This is an unstructured day to enjoy as you wish. Meet at 2:45pm right in front of Santa Maria Novella Train Station (purchase ticket online http://trenitalia.com for the 15:13 train that arrives at 15:50 from Firenze S. M. Novella to Montevarchi-Terranuova). We won’t be able to wait for you if you are late. Board the train directly if you don’t see us. It is a 40 minute ride. We will provide a shuttle from the station in Montevarchi to La Selva with a stop at a local market for snacks and supplies.

We also provide a departure shuttle to Montevarchi-Terranuova train station on Monday October 1. We check-out of La Selva at 10am and travel our separate ways from the train station.

We have carefully curated unique cultural adventures as a part of this journey. Participate in as much as you wish! Everything is optional and a la carte. You can pay for them as they happen. Since all of these excursions are paid directly to the provider, prices are subject (but not likely) to change. Please note that on the excursion days, there will be limited meals served at the villa (indicated below).

As a part of our wellness education and exploration, we will visit Terme San Giovanni Rapolano, a thermal hot spring and spa on Saturday September 15. It will be about 50€ for transport in a private bus from the villa. We will also enjoy lunch and dinner there and return to La Selva in the evening. Only breakfast will be served at La Selva. Check out the options for spa services.

On Sunday September 16 we have another wellness cultural excursion planned; a boutique biodynamic vineyard tour that includes a reception with the owners and wine producer, a walk in the vineyard and a visit to the wine cellar followed by a special wine tasting and four course vegetarian lunch paired with wine. The cost is 90€ including transportation. Lunch will not will be served at La Selva.

We will visit the historic city of Siena on Saturday September 22 (about 50€ for a private bus from the villa) & picturesque Cortona (setting for the book & movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”) on Saturday September 29 (13€ per person for round trip taxi to the train station and about 20€ for the round trip train ticket). Shopping, meals and tours in these places are up to you. Only breakfast will be served at La Selva on these days.

We will visit Montevarchi for the outdoor market (13€ per person for round trip taxi, market closes at 12:30) on Thursday September 22 and will have lunch in town. You can also take a taxi on your own to the nearby Prada outlet. Lunch will not be served at La Selva.

Also planned is a day hike through the Chianti hills from the villa on Sunday September 23. This will be about 30€ and includes a nature guide and light lunch. Lunch will not be served at La Selva.

There will be a massage therapist on call at the villa for 70€ per hour.
